The plastic is a “serious, growing and underestimated” danger for human health and the planet, warns a new specialized analysis.
The world is in a “plastic crisis” that causes diseases and deaths from baby to old, being responsible for damages worth at least $ 1,500 billion annually related to health.
The main cause of the crisis is the huge acceleration of plastic production, which has grown more than 200 times since 1950 and is about to triple again, reaching over one billion tonnes annually by 2060.
Although the plastic has many important uses, the fastest growth has been recorded in disposable plastic production, such as drinks and fast food packaging.
