Traditional novenary of Our Lady of Glory in the Juruá Valley starts this Tuesday

It starts this Tuesday (5), in Cruzeiro do Sul (AC), the 107th novenary of Our Lady of Gloria, one of the greatest religious and cultural manifestations of Acre and the Juruá Valley. The official opening will be at 7:30 pm, with Mass celebrated by Bishop Dom Flávio Giovenale, in the city’s cathedral.

After the celebration, there will be the traditional raising of the flags of Brazil, Acre, the Municipality and the Parish of Gloria, in front of the Mother Church. The ceremony will be attended by the band of the 61st Jungle Infantry Battalion (Bis). This year, the novenary brings as its theme: “Mary, mother of hope”.

According to Dom Flávio, the event is a moment of meeting and fraternity, which goes beyond religious borders.

“It will be a feast of hope, with great faith and culture for our diocese and parish. We will have news that will reaffirm our devotion to our Mother of Glory. It is a moment of encounter with God, with Mary and our brothers,” said the bishop.

Religious and Cultural Programming

The program continues until August 15, the date on which the traditional procession of Our Lady of Glory will be held, which should gather more than 50,000 people through the central streets of the city.

Every day, religious programming starts at 15h, with moments of reflection, prayer, worship of the Blessed Sacrament, Confessions and Masses. After the celebrations, there will be auctions, selling typical foods and cultural presentations in Cathedral Square.

Each night of the novenary will be dedicated to specific groups or professional categories, as well as municipalities of the diocese of Cruzeiro do Sul, which covers 12 cities in the states of Acre and Amazonas. Among the honorees are artists, farmers, indigenous peoples, families, health professionals, safety, education and commerce.

Special programming for young people and children

The novenary will also feature activities aimed at young and child public. On August 9, the Young Pilgrimage will be held, with concentration at 15h, at the Rodrigues Alves ferry, and walk to the Cathedral.

On August 10, in celebration of Father’s Day, there will be the procession of children, leaving the children’s friendly garden to the cathedral, where a special mass will be celebrated at 8 am.

*Closing with faith, tradition and music*

The closing on August 15, a municipal holiday in honor of the patron saint, will feature Mass at 8am, with special blessing for sick, caregivers and family members. At 5:30 pm, the procession begins, leaving near Plínio Hotel, passing through central streets and returning to the cathedral. After the closing mass, the faithful will attend a show with Catholic singer Davidson Silva.

Recognized as Cultural and Religious Heritage of the Juruá Valley, the November of Our Lady of Glory mobilizes thousands of faithful from all Acre and neighboring states, celebrating the faith, Marian devotion and the centenary tradition that marks the history of Cruzeiro do Sul.
