The death of Jorge Costa, former captain and emblematic figure of FC Porto, shook the world of football on Tuesday. Speaking emotional statements, Portista President André Villas-Boas honored the ‘bug’, recalling his delivery, leadership and historical importance to the club.
“Jorge, you will miss you, but you will not doubt that we will fight for you how you struggled for us and FC Porto. You will never be forgotten, Captain,” expressed the ‘Blue and White’ leader in a statement, expressing the commitment to honor the legacy of the former central defense.
André Villas-Boas also remembered his personal connection with Jorge Costa, highlighting his motivating strength and the tireless spirit: “I always had a friend and source of strength and inspiration. When someone faded, he came with a message of focus and strength. It was like this: I was shifted, led us to the fight and only dropped when we saw to celebrate a victory.”
Jorge Costa represented the ‘dragons’ in 383 official games between 1992 and 2005, and captained the emblem for several times, becoming one of the most striking defenses in Portist history, with which he won an UEFA Cup, an intercontinental cup, eight times the first league, five the Portuguese Cup and five the Super Cup.
