Corinthians is preparing a letter that will be sent to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) requesting the replacement of the referee responsible for VAR, Caio Max Augusto Vieira (GO), in the match against Palmeiras, valid for the Brazilian Cup, this Wednesday (08/06). The club justifies the request remembering an episode involving Caio the previous year.
By July 2024, Corinthians had already formalized a request from the CBF to open an investigation against the referee. The request took place shortly after his performance at VAR in Corinthians’ victory over Vitória 3-2, for the Brazilian Championship.
At the time, the request was motivated by accusations that Max Augusto would have made unfavorable comments to Corinthians on his Twitch channel, live broadcast platform, where he used to broadcast matches of the EA FC, former FIFA.
The profile “JudgeFifaplayer”, associated with the referee, even stated in a broadcast, when asked if he had already harmed Corinthians, who “of course”, adding that “Timon has to be f …”. After the repercussion, the Twitch channel was deleted. Max Augusto Vieira, in turn, denied that the profile was his.
Given this, Corinthians asked the referee not to be scheduled for club games. The subject gained momentum between the fans after the release of VAR audios in the match against Vitória, which showed controversial throws involving Caio Max Augusto in team games.
In the confrontation against Vitória, Caio Max Augusto Vieira recommended the expulsion of striker Yuri Alberto for a foul considered “excessive strength” in an opponent. However, the match referee, Gustavo Ervino Bauermann (SC), disagreed with the suggestion and applied only the yellow card.

Corinthians and Palmeiras face each other on Wednesday at Allianz Parque, for a place in the quarterfinals of the Brazilian Cup. The referee will be Anderson Daronco (RS).
In the first game, Corinthians won 1-0, in a duel that Palmeiras complained of an unmarked penalty in Lucas Evangelista and scoring from Mauricio’s goal by impediment of Gustavo Gómez.
