It is the fifth Witkoff’s visit to Russia since the beginning of 2025. He was last in Moscow on April 25, previously 11 April in St. Petersburg. In both cases he was received by the Kremlin chief. Recently, Trump has repeatedly expressed his dissatisfaction with the approach of Putin and warned Moscow that if he did not end the war in Ukraine within 50 days, he will impose duties of 100 percent on its business partners. Later, the deadline shortened to ten days and expires this Friday.

Asked whether Moscow could avoid the imposition of US sanctions, Trump replied that the condition was to conclude an agreement “thanks to which people will stop dying”. According to him, the next steps of Washington will depend on the outcome of Witkoff’s negotiations in Moscow.
