‘Minister Alexandre has all our confidence and our support,’ said a cut -off colleague, during the arrival of an event that also featured guests by Geraldo Alckmin and Hugo Motta
The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court () said on Wednesday (6) that the Court does not face any internal discomfort after the minister’s decision to decree the former president’s house arrest (PL). “Minister Alexandre has all our confidence and support,” said Gilmar when questioned by journalists during an event in Brasilia. The statement was given on arrival at the Health Forum, promoted by Sphere Brazil and the Pharmacist EMS, which was attended by the Vice-President (PSB), Minister of Health, (PT), and Mayor Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB).
According to Gilmar, the decision of Moraes, although not previously discussed with the other ministers, did not generate internal tension. The measure was taken after Bolsonaro appeared on video during demonstrations on Sunday (3), which failed to comply with judicial determination that prohibited the former president from using social networks, directly or indirectly. The arrest order motivated reactions from the former president’s allies, who claim to have political persecution. The episode also resulted in the obstruction of the work on the opposition on Tuesday (5), the first business day after the parliamentary recess.
Gilmar also criticized the reaction of the United States government, which applied the so -called Magnitsky Law against Moraes. The provision allows sanctions to foreigners accused of corruption or human rights violation. “What is not normal is to try to use tariffs to achieve institutional changes. This is clearly repudient and affects the sovereignty of countries,” the minister said, referring to the justification of US President Donald Trump, who has binded sanctions on Bolsonaro’s treatment in Brazil.
In late July, the Trump government imposed a 50% tariff on Brazilian products and announced sanctions against Moraes. Gilmar considered it “unthinkable” that a country tries to interfere with the functioning of constitutional cuts of another nation through commercial or diplomatic measures.
