The Chinese authorities recorded more than 7,000 mosquito-transmitted cases, in the Chinese province of Kuang-Tung, which forced the authorities to introduce measures similar to those from the period of the Covid-19 pandemic. In Fo-Shan, which is most affected, patients with Chikungunya must stay in the hospital where their beds protect their mosquitoes.

They may only be discharged after a negative test or after the seven -day hospitalization. The virus spreads from the infected mosquito and causes fever and severe joint pain, which in some cases can persist for years. Although the incidence of this disease in China is rare, in South and Southeast Asia, and in parts of Africa, its epidemics are common.

In addition to Fo-shank, at least twelve cities in the southern province of the Curang-Tung reported infected. Almost 3,000 cases have been recorded in the last week. On Monday, the first case was also reported in Hong Kong. A twelve-year-old boy was ill with fever, rash and joint pain on the way to Fo-Shana.

The virus is not contagious among people and spreads only when the mosquito bites an infected person and then transfers the virus to another person. The authorities state that all reported cases had a slight course and 95 percent of patients were released within 7 days.
