It began this Tuesday, August 5, the 29th edition of the Sardinha Festival, which runs until Sunday, August 10, in the River Zone of Portimão. The event started with the already traditional historical recreation of the sardine discharge, which marked the beginning of the most emblematic gastronomic and cultural festivities of the Algarve.

In a statement, the municipality of Portimão reports that the event “beat all the maximum visits on inauguration day”, having been registered 25,768 entries at the official portico of the venue, between 18:00 and 24:00.

The municipality stresses that “this number does not count the wide thousands of people who attended the adherent restaurants and the various animation spaces spread throughout the city’s riverside area.”

This Wednesday, August 6, the program continues with musical animation on various stages. The highlight goes to Pedro Abrunhosa, head of poster of the day, who takes the main stage at 22:00. Prior to that, at 18:00, the Algarve Jazz Orchestra Alcohetra Alcohetra operates on stage music in the garden, and at 8:30 pm Eduardo Viegas takes the Sardinha stage.

For the younger ones, the festival offers the Petinga Park Space daily, next to the old crowd building, with activities between 19:30 and 23:45. With free admission, younger people can participate in themed studiors, free painting and drawing and have fun. This Tuesday’s studio is dedicated to the “Marafadas girls: Algarve dolls”, in a tribute to the traditional folklore costumes in the region.

Also from 19:30, chef Luís Oliveira, from the F Restaurant, dynamizes a sardine tiborna on the showcooking stage, in partnership with the gastronomic brotherhood of Sardinha de Portimão. These culinary demonstrations have the participation of the Algarve Wine Commission (CVA), which will follow each showcooking with free wine tama with Algarve seal, in a total of one hundred tests per session.

In Espaço Lounge, the highlight goes to the initiative “The City in Conversation”, a program broadcast live by Alvor FM (90.1 FM E), between 20:00 and 21:00, centered on the life and identity of the Urban Center of Portimão.

With free admission, the Sardinha Festival continues until Sunday, with a vast cultural, musical and gastronomic programming, having as its main star the traditional baked sardine. The municipality of Portimão invites residents and visitors to participate in the one that is considered “the largest gastronomic party of the Algarve and one of the most emblematic in the country”.
