Property owner 'thank you' to adopt these unusual rules after guests leave € 1,400 of light for these reasons

Temporary lease platforms, such as Airbnb, have transformed the way we travel, offering guests more options and often more competitive prices compared to traditional hotels. However, the flexibility that pleases tenants and owners can sometimes generate unexpected and expensive situations for those who rent the space.

The Strange Case in the United States

This is what happened to Ashley, owner of an accommodation in the United States, who resorted to Tiktok to report an unusual experience with guests who, without leaving anything or causing visible damage, eventually caused him a loss of about 1,400 euros. In the video, shown by Executive Digest, the hostess said that at the outset everything went well: quiet stay, five -star rating and house left in perfect condition.

A shocking electricity bill

The problem arose when Ashley received the monthly electricity bill. The value of $ 1,500 was far above the usual. Upon contacting the supplier company, it was informed that there was no mistake. Suspicious, he decided to verify the images of the security cameras installed outside the property.

It was then that, according to the same source, he realized the origin of abnormal consumption: on the last day of the stay, the tenants had installed a loading station for their electric car and connected ten computers simultaneously.

The true cause: cryptocurrency mining

After several contact attempts, Ashley was able to talk to guests, who admitted to using the stay to minister cryptocurrencies for three consecutive weeks, an activity that requires high energy consumption to maintain equipment connected 24 hours a day.

According to themselves, they will have profited about $ 100,000 (91,300 euros) during this period and, surprisingly, agreed to pay the electricity bill.

New rules to prevent abuse

According to, determined to prevent the situation from repeating, the owner changed the conditions of her ad in Airbnb. Among the new rules, it expressly prohibited cryptocurrency mining in the accommodation, as well as the installation of loading stations for electric vehicles.
