Ally of the Minister of the Supreme Court, Senator Ana Paula Lobato (PDT-MA) is affiliated with this Wednesday (6) and assumes the party’s state command, now controlled by the governor of, Carlos Brandão (PSB). The episode owes between the two groups.
In a decision taken by the PSB national summit, chaired by the mayor of Recife, the senator will occupy the governor’s party post. In April last year, she had exchanged the PSB for the PDT.
Brandão was an ally of the STF minister and was elected with his support, after the governor seeks more autonomy and disagree with the proposal for the deputy governor, Felipe Camarão (PT), assume the government in April and compete for the succession.
The petista is close to Dino. The governor, however, wants to elect his nephew, Orleans Brandão (), and gave up the plan to apply for senator to keep his group in charge of the state.
Brandão runs the state PSB since Dino’s discharge to take over as Minister of the Supreme Court. But the governor has been working at the same time to strengthen the former president’s party MDB for decades the most powerful politician in Maranhão.
Despite having the MDB as a plan for the candidacy, the governor wanted to avoid the departure of the PSB from his support base and maintain the influence on the acronym.
Dino was governor of Maranhão from January 2015 to April 2022, when he resigned to run for Senate by the PSB. Carlos Brandão, then deputy governor, rose to office and was reelected two years ago.
PSB members claim that the governor is not working to build a competitive plate for the House of Representatives and, therefore, will remove the presidency of his party and deliver to the Dino group.
Ana Paula was Dino’s alternate in the Senate and assumed the ownership of her term when he was appointed to the Supreme Court.
The conflict between the two groups also causes difficulties for President Lula (PT), who sees his base crack in the state and make room for opposition.
