Pharmaceutical company Bayer received an unexpected boost: the sale of Florian Wirtz football star, who leaves Bayer 04 Leverkusen and goes to Liverpool Football Club for reports, according to reports, a $ 116 million agreement (something like $ 154 million, or $ 843 million in the current price).

Typically, the property of the Bayer 04 Leverkusen football team for Bayer does not influence much on their financial results.

But this was a positive point in the results of the second quarter, published on Wednesday (6), amid the challenges that the German conglomerate faces with its traditional business.

“The financial performance of the soccer program is accounted for in Bayer’s ‘reconciliation’ share of ‘reconciliation’,” said chief financial officer Wolfgang Nickl in a teleconference with reporters.

Wirtz’s transfer helped compensate the highest expenses the company faced with encouragement programs and exchange rates.

“If we have these transfers, we need to compare the accounting value with the prices we get, and this can lead to an extraordinary result for several players,” said Nickl.

Football and Bayer Balance

The soccer team generated a lot of corporate pride last year, when Bayer 04 Leverkusen became the first team to end upborn in Bundesliga, the main German league. Wirtz, midfielder, was elected the best player of the year that season.

In June, 22 -year -old Wirtz left Bayer Leverkusen to go to Liverpool, where he will start helping the club to defend the Premier League title this month.

Looking at the corporate results, Bayer presented mixed results, citing the strong demand for new cancer medications and kidney and slow sales of herbicide Roundup. The company faces major challenges in all its three business divisions. The pharmaceutical unit is facing patent losses to two of its successful medicines.

The Agricultural Science Division is jammed into mass disputes in the US over Roundup and toxic PCBs.

Meanwhile, growth is slowing down in the consumer health sector, which may soon be even more harmed by the effects of tariffs that raise US costs. These problems, however, are often far from the ups and downs of the soccer program.

In the past, Bayer leaders said they had no intention of selling the sports team in an attempt to reinforce the cash to the main business. Nickl noted that Wirtz is not the only player who influenced this effect.

Liverpool also paid for Bayer Leverkusen star defender Jeremie Frimpong, for example.

Nor is it the first time Bayer has seen an increase in profits from the loss of a great talent of football. In 2020, Chelsea hired former Bayer Leverkusen, Kai Havertz.
