Minister Sebastião Reis Júnior, from voted on Tuesday (5) for the annulment of the conviction of Adriana Villela, known for the “crime of 113 south” in Brasilia. Sebastião understood that the conviction must be annulled by the lack of access to the defense to the extrajudicial statements of the defendants who imputed Adriana the authorship of the murder. “Access to evidence by the defense, before the process assesses, is a condition to ensure the contradictory and the broad defense, allowing its instrumentalization effectively,” said the minister. So far, the trial score is tied 1-1.
The 61-year-old architect was accused of being the mastermind of the murder of the lawyer and former minister of José Guilherme Villela, his wife, Maria Carvalho Villela, and the family maid, Francisca Nascimento da Silva. They were stabbed to death in the apartment, in 2009, in block 113 of Asa Sul, in Brasilia, by the former porter of the building, his nephew and another partner. Adriana was sentenced in 2019 to 61 years in prison by the Jury Court of Brasilia. From the sentence, the accused appeals in freedom.
