United States President Donald Trump again threatened commercial sanctions against Russian oil. The statements were made at an event at the White House, this Tuesday, 5.
Trump said he will have a meeting on Wednesday, 6, with Russia to discuss a ceasefire in the conflict with Ukraine, as the deadline given by the Republican to end the conflict is approaching.
During an event for the signing of a 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, asked about tariffs to countries that buy Russian oil, Trump said “never said a percentage” to the surcharge, but indicated that it will be close to 100%.

“We will make a decision on sanctions to countries that buy Russian energy after tomorrow’s meeting (Wednesday) with Russia,” added the president.
Brazil is a traditional Russian diesel buyer, although Trump has not quoted the country.
In the first half, the purchase of Russian diesel accounted for 39.1% of the volume acquired by Brazil. The United States appears in second place with 32.8%, according to the consultancy Stonex, based on government data.

Recently, in an interview with Estadão/Broadcast, the executive president of the Brazilian Association of Fuel Importers (Abicom), Sérgio Araújo, said that Brazilian distributors could try to prioritize the purchase of oil products from other countries, such as the United States.
However, according to him, the importation of Russian diesel and gasoline would still be necessary.
“If the scenario evolves to the point where Brazil is taxed by maintaining business relations with Russia, Brazil will continue to buy the Russian products. Oil derivatives produced by Russian refineries are fundamental to meeting world demand. It is not simple to take them out of the market and find alternative suppliers with the same volume capacity,” Araújo said.
