More than 1250 firefighters have been deployed to fight fire in the Aude department. The flames spread unusually fast especially for strong winds at night

In the southern French department of Aude near the Spanish border, a forest fire has already burned about 8,000 hectares of forest. He informed the local fire brigade on Tuesday evening, TASR writes based on DPA, Reuters and AFP reports.

Alexandre Jouassard, a spokesman for the Civil Protection Office for BFMTV, said more than 1250 firefighters have been deployed in the fight against the fire. Local authorities have announced that they have so far registered in conjunction with the fire of two wounded people.

Jouassard claims that the flames spread unusually quickly, especially for strong winds, and it is unlikely that firefighters would be able to extinguish the fire at night. The fire reportedly broke out in the Corbieres mountain range around Ribauute.

French President Emmanuel Macron said through the X social network that the flames are still spreading and added that “all national resources were mobilized”.

In the department of AUD, the number of forest fires has increased in recent years, especially due to insufficient rainfall and removal of vineyards, which previously helped slow the spread of fires.
