The souls of Poland: premieres president ultra, in the middle of the cold war with the Liberal Tusk

This Wednesday will arrive at the position of President of Poland with the promise of promoting a conservative, nationalist and belligerent agenda against Brussels and is expected to exercise a strong opposition to the measures promised by the Prime Minister ,.

These are some of the keys to how Nawrocki’s investiture will affect the fragile centrist government coalition, when reaching the equator of its legislature.

Cold War with Tusk

The lack of harmony between Nawrocki and Tusk does not come only from ideological differences: each of these leaders represents half of the electorate – as reflected – and defends opposite society models.

Tusk, who underwent a vote of parliamentary confidence and restructured his cabinet to deal with the crisis unleashed by Nawrocki’s victory, will be in front of a president determined to deactivate all the progressive initiatives of the government, in order to erode its effectiveness and, if possible, cause the advancement of elections.

Reversing the controversial judicial reform of the former Executive, an issue that has caused countless problems, is presented as an impossible task with a hostile president, and many of the key appointments, from ambassadors to figures such as the governor of the National Bank or audit must have the approval of Nawrocki.

National sovereignty, Euroscepticism

Again, the Belvedere Palace of Warsaw will have as a tenant a critical president with Brussels and Berlin: Nawrocki rejects the and the trade regime of issuance rights of the European Union (EU-ETS) because, he said, “until the nuclear energy to Poland arrives, the Polish coal must be extracted.”

In addition to the veto with which any law can stop, Nawrocki could in theory, based on the legislation introduced by the previous government, the representation of Poland in the summits of the European Union (EU), which would create an additional conflict.

Strict and restrictive immigration policy

The new president advocates a ferreially controlled immigration policy with national, non -European criteria, with the total rejection of illegal immigration and the construction of deportation centers.

It opposes the migratory pact of the European Union (EU) and requires “national priority in access to social services” for Poles against foreigners, including Ukrainians.

Conservative social agenda

Nawrocki promises “to combat gender ideology in schools” and gender change policies for minors and reverse decisions taken by the government in this field.

It will be impossible to advance in the decriminalization of abortion under his mandate, since it is to anticipate that he will not hesitate to stop any law in this regard.

The traditional family as the center of society, not to equal marriage between the adoption of children by that group complete the pillars of the vision that Nawrocki has of a Poland that, in his opinion, has fallen prey to the “sociological experiments of the left elites.”

Tax drop promises

The “drastic reduction of taxes to families” that it promised in its campaign includes the reduction of VAT from 23 % to 22 % and reindexar pensions “always above inflation”, as well as the fiscal exemption for inheritances and zero tax for family income with at least two children.

He has promised to reduce the electrical bill for households in a third thanks to the reactivation of the carboniferous industry.

In Poland, the president can promote his own laws, which must later receive the approval of Parliament, but an initiative in this area could produce a clash with the government.

Warnings to Ukraine

Although it supports Ukrainian sovereignty, Nawrocki while being at war because, according to him, “that would lead to the involvement of all NATO countries.”

Another requirement to kyiv is to solve “historical and justice issues”, such as the massacres of Poles in Volinia of World War II, and demands an end to the “tariff advantages” for the entry of Ukrainian products into the Union.

Military and defense reinforcement

Nawrocki supports increasing 5 % defense expenditure of GDP and capturing that obligation in the Constitution, as well as increasing armed forces to 300,000 soldiers.

This military strengthening is an area of possible consensus with the Tusk government, but even in this chapter they are waiting for divergences, because for Nawocki, the EU rearme plans and especially Germany “are harmful to Polish sovereignty.”
