Trump said India has not been a good commercial partner

The president of the, said on Tuesday (5) that the tariffs he plans to impose on imported pharmaceutical products could reach 250% in the future and re-pressed India. Trump has threatened India several times with a “sanction” if he continues to buy Russian oil. For now, it has predicted customs tariffs of 25% to the Asian country, but said this could change in the next 24 hours. “India has not been a good commercial partner, because they do a lot of business with us, but we do not do business with them. We adjusted to 25%, but I think I will increase it substantially in the next 24 hours because they are buying Russian oil,” Trump said in an interview with CNBC. It did not detail what the increase would be.

As for pharmaceutical products, the Republican president announced in early July that he would impose a 200% surcharge if production was not quickly transferred to US territory. “Initially, let’s put a low rate on pharmaceutical products, but in a year, a year and a half, will rise to 150% and then to 250% because we want pharmaceutical products to be manufactured in our country,” Trump told CNBC.

At the same time, the president of the United States wants to reduce drug prices, which on average are much higher than in the vast majority of other industrialized countries. In letters sent last week to 17 companies in the sector, he asked them to download their products prices or face reprisals. They have until September 29 to commit to doing so.
