Architect Carlos Lemos dies at 100

USP professor for 58 years, joined Copan’s technical team and defended the Brazilian historical heritage

The architect died on Wednesday (6.ago.2025), at 100, in São Paulo. Considered one of the main figures of Brazilian architecture, Lemos stood out for its production, performance in higher education and preservation of historical heritage. Death was by FAU (Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism), USP (University of São Paulo).

Lemos worked on the construction of, integrating the technical team led by. He was a teacher of 58 years and consolidated a career aimed at appreciation of modern architecture and the study of traditional Brazilian forms.

Among his most recognized works is the newspaper building of the newspaper Morning. It also contributed to several residential and commercial projects in the state of São Paulo, reconciling Brazilian functionality and architectural identity.

Published books like “What is historical heritage” e “What is architecture.” He also served as director of and joined the (Council of Defense of Historical, Archaeological, Artistic and Tourist Heritage of São Paulo).

Lemos joined the (Institute of Architects of Brazil) and received awards from entities such as (Paulista Association of Art Critics).

There is still no public information on burial or ceremony date.
