The first migrants who got into the country illegally through the Lamans Strait have already been detained and planned to expel them back to France.

The United Kingdom detained the first migrants according to the “one here, one there”, which it closed with France.

According to the agreement “One here, one there” will send back to France illegal migrants who got into the country through the Lamanský Strait on small ships. In exchange, it will accept the same number of migrants who have legitimate reasons to apply for asylum in Britain. The “one here, one” initiative, which came into effect on Wednesday, was announced last month by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Beginning of deportations

“Yesterday (Wednesday), we started to detain people who came to the United Kingdom on small boats. They will be detained in immigration centers until their expulsion,” the Ministry of the Interior said in a statement, adding that he plans to send detained refugees to France in the coming weeks.

Shots from Wednesday’s event near the town of Dover capture migrants in rescue vests as they come out of the coast guard.

“If you break the law when entering this country, you are at risk of sending you back. When I say I don’t stop in front of anything to secure our borders, I mean it,” Starmer wrote on Social Network X.
