For the first time in Acre, gay man gets protective measure based on the Maria da Penha Law

The Acre Civil Police, through the Xapuri General Police Station, obtained an urgent protective measure in favor of a man victim of domestic violence within a homosexual relationship. The request was made last Wednesday (6) and accepted by the court, in line with a recent decision of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), which extends the protection of the Maria da Penha Law to same-sex couples, including men.

Delegate Luccas Vianna, responsible for the case, explained that the request was based on the new understanding of the Supreme Court, which recognized the right of men in homosexual relations to receive legal protection against abuses committed in a domestic environment. The decision was signed in February 2025, in the judgment of the injunction 7,452/DF, and also includes transvestites and transsexual women.

“Domestic violence does not choose sexual orientation. Our role is to ensure that all victims have access to the protection provided for by law. The decision of the Supreme Court strengthens this commitment and gives us legal backing to act more broadly in these cases,” said Luccas Vianna.

According to the reported report, the victim lived for about seven years in a stable union with the aggressor, but has been separated for approximately five months. Since then, the former partner would have started a series of persecution, threats and direct interference in the complainant’s personal and professional life. According to the report, the perpetrator even resigned from the victim of seven jobs, creating constraint situations in the workplace.

The victim also denounced death threats, if he gets involved with someone else, which further aggravated the scenario of psychological violence.

In formalizing the representation, the delegate stressed that the Civil Police are committed to guaranteeing the rights of victims, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.
