Gm and Hyundai will produce 5 cars together

US automaker will be responsible for pickup, and South Korean, for compact models and van

The US automaker GM will lead the development of the medium pickup platform, while South Korean Hyundai will be responsible for compact vehicles and electric van. Both companies will use ordinary platforms, but the internal and external design will be exclusive, reflecting the identity of each brand.

“Through this partnership, GM and Hyundai will bring more options to consumers, with greater agility and lower cost”said Shilpan Amin, senior vice president of GM. “These first codes -turned vehicles clearly demonstrate how we will leverage our complementary forces and the combined scale of the two companies ”these.

According to the note, GM and Hyundai estimate that sales of these vehicles exceed 800,000 units per year when production is fully in force.

Companies said they continue to evaluate new joint vehicle development opportunities for global markets, as well as potential collaborations in propulsion systems – in combustion engines, hybrids, battery electrical and hydrogen fuel cells.
