Copernicus report reinforces alerts about global warming and its impacts
The year 2025 registered the 3rd month of the hottest already registered globally, according to the document released on Thursday (7.ago.2025) by the European Observatory, which monitors climate change throughout the planet. This result reinforces the growing tendency of climate change in recent years.
According to the report, July reached an average global temperature of 16.68 ° C, which represents an increase of 0.45 ° C compared to the average of the period from 1991 to 2020 and 1.25 ° C above the estimated average for the pre-industrial period, from 1850 to 1900. This reference is fundamental to evaluate the impact of human activities on climate.
July 2025 was less warm just than historical records of 2023 and 2024. Scientists emphasize that the breakdown of the sequence does not mean that global warming is slowing down, as the effects remain noticeable around the world.
“We continue to witness the effects of a warm -up world with events such as extreme heat waves and catastrophic floods in July. Unless we quickly stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere, we must expect new temperature records and an impact worsening, and we need to prepare for it“Said Carlo Buontempo, Director Do Copernicus.
The average temperatures of the last 12 months, between August 2024 and July 2025, remained at 1.53 ° C above the pre-industrial level, exceeding the limit of 1.5 ° C established by the Paris Agreement to avoid the worst effects of climate change.
The document also highlights regional records, such as the maximum temperature of 50.5 ° C in Türkiye, in addition to the historical heat waves in Scandinavia. On the other hand, Central European countries and Spain had below average temperatures in July.
In Asia, sudden floods were recorded, especially in Hong Kong, northern India, China and Pakistan, events aggravated by climate change.
With regard to the Americas, the report cites below average temperatures, but does not make any specific mention of Brazil or other South American countries.
The previous report that June was also the hottest 3rd registered for the month, with an average global temperature of 16.46 ° C, representing an increase of 0.47 ° C compared to the average of the period from 1991 to 2020.
