In addition to Brazil, China and India, they are also part of South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran and Russia.

According to Lula, the idea is to build a unified position among emerging countries in the face of what he considers an “abusive action” of the Trump administration.

“I will try to make a discussion with them about how each one is within the situation, what is the implication they have in each country, so we can make a decision,” said Lula. “It is important to remember that BRICS has ten countries in the G-20,” referring to the group that brings together 20 of the largest economies in the world.

He also announced that he will talk to Modi on Thursday, 7, and intends to organize a business mission to India in the coming months to expand markets.

In this sense, the president stressed that his international relations have no ideological basis, but are built around strategic and economic interests.

According to him, dialogue with different heads of state – regardless of political spectra – aims to generate concrete benefits for the countries involved. Signaling comes at a time of strong commercial tension with the US and rapprochement with Asian countries such as China after the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

Despite criticism of Trump’s new posture on the economy and the impact of tariffs on Brazil, Lula reaffirmed that he intends to personally invite the US president to COP-30, scheduled for November 2025 in Belém (PA).

According to him, the climate conference must include all relevant global actors. “He can’t be left out,” he said amid the deteriorated diplomatic climate.

“Trump is throwing away the opportunity to talk to the most democratic president in Latin America,” said Lula. “If Trump knew I like to talk, he would have already talked to me.”

This Wednesday, the additional 40%rate of Brazilian products, which adds to the 10%reciprocal tariff, entered into force, totaling 50%. The White House, however, excluded from surcharge 694 items such as Embraer planes, orange juice and oil.
