Hermes da Fonseca (1910-1914)

Then president of the Military Club, Hermes was arrested in July 1922 by President Epitácio Pessoa himself. Hermes had challenged the government’s repression against groups dissatisfied with the election of Artur Bernardes to the Catete Palace.

After suffering a heart attack, the former president was released, being arrested again days later, with the revolt at the Copacabana Fort. With tenentism on his foot, Epitacio decreed the state of siege.
