The teaching will temporarily move to the spare building while the original school will undergo extensive modifications.

The building of the grammar school in the Austrian town of Graz, where his former student shot nine pupils in June, will remain closed during the next school year. Students and educators temporarily move to a nearby building, which is rented by AVL and is secured by an electronic access system. TASR informs about this, referring to Thursday’s news of Kleine Zeitung and OE24.at.

School reconstruction planned

In the meantime, it was decided on a comprehensive reconstruction of the school. Two classes will be included in the new common areas, where the perpetrator murdered and will no longer be used as a classroom.

Instead, new classes will be created either in the library or computer classroom. The solution in the form of an extension was rejected because it would be more expensive and more time consuming.

The tragedy shook Austria

A 21-year-old former student burst into the building of the higher real grammar school (Borg) in Graz on 10 June. He shot nine pupils and teachers and then committed suicide in the toilet.

This tragedy also had far -reaching political consequences in Austria. After the summer holidays, Parliament will discuss the draft government to tighten the Act on Weapons.
