President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he will impose a 100% rate on semiconductor imports and chips, but not for companies that are “producing in the United States.”
But the details of the plan, such as the amount of production in the US that a company needs to do to qualify for the exemption of the fare, have not been clear.
Trump had said on Tuesday that chips rates, which became key components in virtually every industry, can be applied next week.

“Let’s impose a very high fare on chips and semiconductors,” Trump said this afternoon at the Oval Hall.
According to the US President, “the good news for companies like Apple is that if you are producing in the United States or committed to producing, undoubtedly, has committed to produce in the United States, there will be no charge.”
“That is, let’s impose a tariff of approximately 100% on chips and semiconductors. But if you are producing in the United States of America, there will be no charge,” said Trump;

The statements were made after Trump announced Apple’s commitment to invest another $ 100 billion in the United States over the next four years, in addition to the $ 500 billion that the technology giant had previously promised.
TSMC, the world’s largest chip manufacturing company, has promised to invest a total of $ 165 billion in the United States.
Nvidia, the world’s most valuable company, announced in April that it plans to spend $ 500 billion on US artificial intelligence infrastructure over the next four years.
