US tariff reaches 77.8% of Brazil’s exports

50% rates focus on 41.4% of Brazilian shipments to the US; The transformation industry is the most impacted sector

A survey by (National Industry Confederation) released on Tuesday (6.ago.2025) shows that 77.8% of Brazilian exports to the United States have been subject to additional rates since April after decrees implemented by President Donald Trump (Republican Party).

The new tariffs imposed by the USA entered into force from 1h01 (Brasília time) of this 4th (6.ago). The US President determined a 50% rate on Brazilian imports. It is a rate of 10% general plus an additional 40% charge.

According to CNI, almost half (41.4%) of the Brazilian export agenda to the US is subject to a combined rate of 50%. The maximum tax rate leans on 7,691 different products, says the study. In 2024, the export of these goods reached $ 17.5 billion.

The analysis encompasses the over -thexes resulting from executive orders issued by the Trump government since April, which have created additional tax rates 10%40%, and even 50%in addition to the sectoral measures provided for in section 232 Trade Expansion Act.

“We will need to advance in negotiations to reverse these barriers”said CNI President Ricardo Alban.

Transformation Industry: +

The sector accounts for 69.9% of 50% tariff exports, with 7,184 affected products. The segment obtained a total of US $ 12.3 billion in 2024.

The other sectors most affected by maximum surcharge are:

  • Clothing and accessories – 14.6%;
  • Machines and Equipment – 11.2%;
  • Textile products – 10.4%;
  • Food – 9%;
  • Chemicals – 8.7%;
  • Leather and shoes – 5.7%.

Already the steel, aluminum and copper segments, reached by section 232, total 9.3% of the agenda and also face additional 50% rate.

Extractive industry

Products not affected by tariffs represent 22.2% of the agenda and totaled US $ 9.4 billion in 2024. The highlight is light and heavy oil, as well as automotive fuels and non-biodiesel industrial oils.

Among the products that have escaped the tariffs, most are concentrated in the extractive industry, especially light and heavy oil. They represent 68.9% of fare free exports.

There is also a conditional exception to civil aviation: 6.9% of the agenda, equivalent to US $ 2.9 billion in 2024, may be exempt from the 40% tariff if the aeronautical destination of products – specially large aircraft is proved.
