The documentary series “The murder of actor Rafael Miguel” The second episode debuts in the HBO Max streaming service on Thursday (7). Divide into three episodes (released one Thursday), the production seeks to portray crime and the incessant search for Paulo Cupertinogiving voice to Isabela tibcherani Matiasdaughter of the Assasino and, at the time of the crime, girlfriend of the star of “Chiquititas”.
In the series, in addition to Isabela’s point of view, there is the report of friends of Rafael and people who were involved with the killer. Family participation, however, does not happen with unpublished reports.
Rafael was shot dead on June 9, 2019. The actor’s parents, João Alcisio Miguel and Miriam Selma da Silvathey were also shot and could not resist. Paulo Cupertino was sentenced to 98 years in prison for the crime.
To tell the story mainly taking into account the reports of Rafael Miguel’s older sister, Camilla Miguelinterview files were used by her in previous years.
In an interview with CNNthe work team clarified the artist’s family participation in the Max series.
“We talked a lot to his family, but we respect when they didn’t want to have such a strong presence in the series,” said the producer Fernando Dias.
“The project is over two years old, at the beginning, after we spoke to Isa, we got in touch with the Rafa family a few times and they had no interest in participating. They were very traumatized because many sensational articles about the case came out,” added the director, Mauricio Dias.
“Over time, we spoke to the family lawyer, who is even an important character in the movie. We respected their desire to continue not participating in the series, but they know the production, gave us authorization, there is nothing hidden from them,” concluded the filmmaker.
According to Adriana Cechetti, senior production director for nonfiction content at Warner Bros. Discovery, the crime that shocked Brazil.
“It’s not a journalistic series. It’s precisely this new look that makes a difference,” said the professional. Access to Isabela was what gave tone to the project. “The series began to be told with her perspective, a victim, witness to everything, and we accompanied her to the trial. This brought another meaning to the narrative,” Cechetti explained.
The documentary also proposes to reveal little exploited aspects of Isabela’s trajectory before the crime. “She even lived in private jail for months with her father. We want the audience to understand who this girl who never wanted to be famous, never wanted to be on the net, but was dragged for this place,” said Mauricio Dias.
