Form of payment reaches 12 units of the continent in Greater Lisbon, benefiting Brazilians residing in Portugal
The Continente Supermarket chain, one of the main ones in Portugal, has expanded the number of stores that accept Pix. The company started the pilot project In Braga, in the north of the country, and announced, this Thursday (07.ago.2025), the expansion for the units of the Lisbon Metropolitan Zone.
Now, in addition to the six units of Braga, a total of 12 stores in the municipalities of Lisbon, Algés, CarcavesEstoril and Oeiras already accept payment in real with Pix.

The company explains that the form of payment is exclusive to customers with Brazilian bank account, and that the payment is already made with the exchange rate applied and the 3.50% for IOF (Tax on Financial Operations).
The continent’s bet in the Brazilian public goes beyond the form of payment. The company, as well as its competitors, already offers several typical products, such as frozen cheese breads, acai, ready crumbs, feijoada mixtures and palm oil. Some atIt is produced by the own marks of supermarkets.
In May, when the supermarket began to accept Pix, some comments with content considered xenophobic viralized on social networks. At the time, the initiative was called “Brasileirization Portugal“.
In addition to the continent, other stores in Portugal accept Pix as a form of payment, such as the Wordsspecializing in appliances and electro -electronic products, and the El Corte Department store English.
The Brazilian population has grown in Portugal in the last decade. According to Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, there are already about 550,000 Brazilians in the country, of which are about 350 thousand in the Lisbon Metropolitan Zone.
