The origin of the boat has not yet been released, but “migrants will be present today, August 9, to the competent authorities,” GNR told.

A boat with 38 migrants, including seven minors, landed this Friday at Boca do Rio Beach, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, Faro district, said the GNR, in a statement.

“The Republican National Guard (GNR), through the Coastal and Border Control Unit (UCCF) and the Faro Territorial Command, rescued yesterday, August 8, 38 migrants aboard a handcrafted vessel in Vila do Bispo,” he said.

Thus, following a popular alert, around 20:10 on Friday, “a vessel was detected approaching the Portuguese coast, next to Boca do Rio Beach, in Budens”, and in the interior “followed twenty-five men, six women and 7 minors,” said the guard, an additional information released earlier.

“The migrants were in a debilitated state and needing medical care, and the means of relief, which provided assistance on site, was immediately called,” added that “in coordination with INEM, the assessment of the health status” of these migrants, “was later transported to hospital units for medical observation.”
