Brazilian clubs pay tribute to Arlindo Cruz: ‘striking voice of Brazilian culture’

Singer, one of the biggest names in samba, died at age 66 at the Barra d’Or Hospital, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro

Brazilian clubs used social networks to honor the singer who died on Friday (8). The artist was a Flamengo fan. “Samba icon, multi-instrumentalist, genius composer and striking voice of Brazilian culture, Arlindo always took Flamengo’s name proudly, packing generations with his talent and his passion for the most beloved,” wrote the red-black team. Other cariocas giants, such as Botafogo and Fluminense also said goodbye to the singer. “His art has given us so many joys and we will always remember him with the joy he would want. Thank you so much, genius. All our solidarity with family, friends and all the immensity of fans,” wrote Fluminense. “Botafogo regrets the death of Arlindo Cruz, one of the greatest sambistas of all time and great exponent of national culture,” said the Glorious.

Madureira, a team from the neighborhood where Arlindo was born, also said goodbye to the artist. “Madureira Esporte Clube regrets, with deep grief, the death of singer and songwriter Arlindo Cruz, one of the biggest names in the history of samba and great representative of the carioca suburban culture”. Other teams, such as Sao Paulo, Corinthians, Palmeiras, Internacional and Bahia, also spoke. The singer, one of the biggest names in samba, died at age 66 at Barra d’Or Hospital, in the west of Rio de Janeiro. He dealt with sequelae of a hemorrhagic stroke occurred in March 2017.
