US President Donald Trump will meet Vladimir Putin in Alaska. They will discuss the end of the war in Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump on Friday on his social network Truth Social wrote that he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin next week, 15 August (Friday), in the US state of Alaska. The meeting was also confirmed by the Russian side. TASR reports this, according to reports of DPA, AFP, AP, Reuters and TASS.
“Russia and the United States are close neighbors … It seems quite logical that our delegation will simply fly over the Bering Strait and that such an important and long -awaited summit among the leaders of both countries will take place there,” said Putin’s advisor Yuri Ušakov. “The invitation has already been sent to the US President,” he added.
Summit in Alaska
Trump had previously noted in the White House that “there would be an exchange of territories for the benefit of both sides”, Ukraine and Russia, but did not provide details about what it meant exactly.
At the beginning of last week, the US President reiterated that he was dissatisfied with Putin, who, according to him, wants the war in Ukraine to continue. He shortened his 50-day period, which he gave him to end the war. The deadline was to expire on Friday 8 August. In the event of its non-compliance, the United States, according to Trump, will impose 100 % duties on Moscow’s business partners. However, according to Reuters, with regard to the announced leaders’ summit, it is not clear whether the sanctions will come into force or will be postponed or canceled.
