The members of the decisive at the General Assembly on Saturday (9), whether it will be deprived or will return to the presidency of the club, in another episode of one of the most turbulent phases in club history. The vote to endorse the impeachment of the leader takes place from 9am to 5 pm, at Wlamir Marques Gymnasium, in Parque São Jorge, Alvinegra Social Headquarters.

Melo has been cautiously removed from office since he had the dismissal approved by the Deliberative Council (CD), for 176 votes in favor of 57, and one white on May 26. Then first vice president, Osmar Stábile started running the club interimly, assisted by Armando Mendonça, who was the second deputy. The pair positions themselves against the departure president and does not continue on the board if he returns.

About 4,000 people are expected in the vote, allowed for those who are in accordance with tuition fees until June 9, are over 18 years old and have been partners for at least five years. The votes are made on paper and deposited in ballot boxes. Infected impeachment, it is up to Romeu Tuma Júnior, president of the CD, to summon new elections, in which only counselors participate. The new president will complete Augusto’s term by the end of 2026. “I will mark when I think I should, and as soon as possible. Corinthians needs to turn this page to be reborn from the ashes, it needs to work,” Tuma said in a press conference on August 1st.

Melo responds to the impeachment process because he is suspected of participating in a scheme to divert values from the club’s former sponsor through a fake intermediary and orange companies. On July 22, he became a defendant for criminal association, theft qualified by the abuse of trust and money laundering. The leader’s defense says he is “a victim of an illegal process full of nullities and abuse.”

Although the expressive difference recorded in the Deliberative Council and the public image of Augusto Melo has noise over the past few months, there is still fear that recent movements of the leader may have given some results. He continues to attend the social club and has been mobilizing behind the scenes, in conversations with different nuclei.

The efforts are also public, as their official pages show on Instagram, a social network in which shares images of repairs and tree pruning he performed in São Jorge Park. A week ago from the Assembly, he was at the inauguration of the “Novo Terrão”, a synthetic grass field orange, inaugurated in the space dedicated to the base categories in São Jorge Park, in reference to the dirt field in which the club’s teams of the club played in the past. “I follow confident, because those who walk the truth are not afraid to face anything. In recent months, a lot of lie has been thrown into the air. They have tried to confuse, manipulate and share the fans. But I know you who really love Corinthians, see what is behind it all,” he said in an Instagram video.

There is also fear that Parque São Jorge will be the scene of confusion, even because of the recent history. The vote for dismissal on the CD only occurred in the third attempt. In the first, in December 2024, Melo got an injunction in court and overthrew the meeting. On Monday, in January, the meeting was suspended for lack of security.

At the time of the first meeting last year, the then president had the backing of organized fans. He was erected by a crowd of fans after being able to nullify the vote. While he was exalted, coffins and dolls were loaded with photos of names such as and, former club presidents and members of the Renewal and Transparency Group, which lost the 2023 election with André Negão in the election.

Seven months later, Augusto Melo saw his face appear glued to a doll of the same style, along with representations of his political opponents, during protest by the uniform on June 24. For this Saturday’s Assembly, Gavião da Fiel, the club’s main organized fans, summoned the fans to meet in front of Parque São Jorge, against Melo.

After being removed in May, the leader even tried to resume power. Maria Ocampos, vice-president of the board, self-declared himself president of the body by presenting a document that said that Tuma Jr. was removed from office by decision of the Ethics Committee, taken on April 9. He also argued that all processes conducted by him from such a date, including impeachment, would have to be annulled.

Based on this argument, Augusto Melo broke into the presidency room in the presence of Osmar Stábile, and tried to resume power, in an act that generated great confusion in the club’s premises. In the end, the letter presented by Ocampos was not considered valid, as it had not been subjected to the necessary procedures.
