(Folhapress) – Almost 24 years after terrorist attacks from September 11, 2001, New York authorities announced on Thursday (7) the identification of three more victims thanks to advances in DNA analysis and continuous work to collect information with family, according to US press.
One of the victims is Barbara Keating, a 72 -year -old woman who was traveling to California after visiting relatives when her plane was kidnapped and directed against one of the World Trade Center towers.
Keating’s identification was confirmed by New York’s corporate corporate office and ends a long wait for his family. Paul, son of the victim, told the NPR broadcaster that the authorities contacted him months ago to be informed about a possible unfolding in the case. He described the efforts of those responsible for the work as impressive.
Another identified victim is Ryan Fitzgerald, a 26 -year -old financial operator who worked at the World Trade Center, and a third woman whose identity was not disclosed at the family’s request.
Authorities said the confirmations were made from remains collected in 2001 and 2002. With the new identifications, 1,653 of the 2,753 victims registered in New York were officially recognized – 60% of the total.
On September 11, 2001, the US suffered the largest terrorist attack in the country’s history: two planes hit the World Trade Center twin towers in New York, leaving almost 3,000 dead.
