Former Portuguese football player and later FC sports director Jorge Costa died on Tuesday at the age of 53. The cause was a sudden cardiac arrest. He was immediately taken from the club training center in Vila Nova de Gaia to Sao Joao in Porto, but doctors could no longer save him.
Costa was in the past Captain FC Porto, playing 15 seasons in the position of a hitchhiker. The highlight of his career was a triumph in the 2004 Champions League under the coaching baton of Jose Mourinh. He also won the UEFA Cup, eight home titles and five triumphs in the National Cup with the Portuguese team.
He played 50 duels in the Portuguese jersey. Once he introduced himself at the World Championship and the European Championship and scored two goals at the top events.
