By the guidance of Minister Mauro Vieira, Ambassador Flavio Goldman, who is interimly occupying the Secretariat of Europe and North America of the portfolio, told Escobar that the country did not accept the “colonial rancidity” of messages from Donald Trump government that mention possible new punishments to STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes and allies.
Goldman added that there are no precedents in this type of hostility in the bilateral relationship. He let Brazil express “deep indignation” with the tone and content of the posts, which are seen as a clear interference in internal affairs, as well as unacceptable threats to Brazilian authorities.
The diplomat also said that this kind of attitude does not fit in a relationship with democracies from friendly countries. He stressed that the US government needs to accept this reality.
Ally of former President Jair Bolsonaro has been increasing the aggressiveness of posts against Brazil, which has bothered Lula. The decision to call Escobar for a conversation is a strong gesture of discontent, according to diplomatic protocols.
As Goldman said to Escobar, the US is giving a clear indication that for Washington, with regard to Brazil, the facts do not matter.
