The opposition leader, (-RN), said on Thursday (7) that his group obtained the 41st signature to the impeachment request against the Minister of (Supreme Court), responsible for cases against the former president.
The number is symbolic because it represents most of the 81 senators. The progress of the process, however, depends on a decision of the president of the House, (Union-AP), and not the number of signatures. Alcolumbre is against the impeachment process and reaffirmed this on Wednesday (6) to senators.
“Now little we have achieved the 41st signature that requires the opening of impeachment process of Minister Alexandre de Moraes for the crimes of responsibility committed,” said Marinho.
“The, mostly, he understood that there is a need to open this process. For us it is a victory that shows that even in a Senate where there is a majority of government supporters, Brazil prevailed,” said the senator.
Marinho spoke to journalists when the senators supporting former President Jair Bolsonaro. They have been at the scene since Tuesday (5) blocking deliberative sessions.
“We now hope that the president of the House, Senator David Alcolumbre, receiving this document, finding that most of his peers have this intention, evaluate how this process can be opened,” said the opposition leader.
