United States President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15 in the US state of Alaska to discuss the war in Ukraine.
It will be the first face to face between the two leaders since 2019, amid diplomatic attempts to end the conflict that has lasted more than three years.
Trump stated that an agreement between Russia and Ukraine is “very close” and that it may involve the exchange of territories, seeking a benefit to both countries.

The meeting takes place after the deadline given to Putin to accept a ceasefire has expired without any official announcement.
The US president stressed that the meeting is not the last chance for Russia, but an important step in negotiations.
The war began in 2014, when Russia illegally attached to Crimea, and intensified in February 2022 with the large -scale invasion of Ukraine.

Despite not having made decisive advances on the battlefield, Russia controls about 20% of the Ukrainian territory, while the Ukrainian offensive have not yet been able to reverse the occupation.
In addition to negotiations with Putin, Trump participated in a ceremony at the White House with Armenian and Azerbaijan leaders, who signed a Peace Agreement mediated by the United States.
During the event, Trump highlighted the countries’ commitment to cease conflicts and received support for his nobel Peace Prize nomination.
