The partners of decided, this Saturday (9), at the General Assembly held in Parque São Jorge, to endorse the decision of the Deliberative Council (CD) that dismisses Augusto Melo the presidency of the club. He had been away since May 26 and now leaves command definitely after 1,413 favorable valid votes against 620 opposites, plus two whites and two nulls.
The leader remains to try to prove in court that he did not participate in a scheme to divert values from the contract with the Vai de Betformer sponsor who brought to the club. Because of the accusations, he became a defendant for criminal association, money laundering and theft qualified for the abuse of trust on July 22. The leader’s defense says he is “a victim of an illegal process full of nullities and abuse.”
The now former Corinthian president spent the whole day isolated at Wlamir Marques Gymnasium, where the vote occurred. He expected the course of the Assembly accompanied only from his son. Punctually, allied briefly greeted him. Prior to the end of the vote, when the partials gave defeat as certain, he left the club around 6.30 pm.
Soon, Corinthians will have a new name in the chair of the presidency. It is up to Romeu Tuma Júnior, chairman of the Deliberative Council, to define the date for new elections, in which a top hat will be chosen to comply with Melo’s mandate by the end of 2026. Only counselors can participate in the election, both as voters and as candidates. Until the election, Osmar Stábile remains an interim president. There is a possibility that he will apply.
The atmosphere around the social club was completely unfavorable to the former Corinthian president. Quadras above the entrance were already seen leaflets glued to posts with the message: “Vote away Augusto Melo”. At the convenience store next to the club, lanes said “who cheated on Corinthians will pay” and “expulsion to all debts.” Such messages were for Melo, but also for former presidents such as Andrés Sanchez and Duílio Monteiro Alves, investigated for misuse of the club’s corporate card. Sanchez was in the assembly in the morning when there were not many fans on the scene.
