Five in the province of León are causing evictions and affecting areas of high cultural and landscape value such as Médulas, World Heritage. The one that worries the most, according to firefighters at the expense of official information, is that of Llamas de Cabrera, while in Yeres, in the vicinity of the medulla, there are 30 evacuated and access has been cut to prevent people from moving in the area. The Junta de Castilla y León has decreed level 2 in these two sinister, so the activation of extraordinary means and resources is required, not only local. Firefighters who are working claim more means than so far have been deployed.

Brigadistas blame the fire in unforeseen dried storms that are combining with the heat wave and the very high temperatures of day and night: “I have never met such a dry summer.” All foci are at a level 1 over a maximum of 3 of danger at the expense of how the day and its temperatures progress.

The first available information come from the Government Subdelegation in León. The extinction troops have been deployed by several points of the Leon province, where this Sunday morning there were active fronts: in Orallo, in Llamas de la Cabrera, in Yeres, in Fasgar and in Olleros de Alba.

One of the firefighters who are participating in the actions against the fire is pessimistic due to the combination of very dry and uncontrolled places, very high and minimal maximum temperatures also high, all with low moisture rates that feed the flames and promote that they advance faster: “I had never seen such a dry summer.”

“In León, practically throughout the province they give at least 32 degrees of maximum, most of the days much more, until next Sunday. And the relative humidity is very worrying. I believe that relative humidity so low had never seen them in León,” laments the forest firefighter on the current and coming conditions.

The forecasts of the previous days failed to anticipate dry storms, with many rays and zero water, which believe they have generated so many fires in Leon territory and in the region of El Bierzo, such as the medulla. They also fear that they go more as a result of possible “latent rays”, that is, electrical discharges whose energy was in trees and have not yet burned but can do it if the conditions, heat or wind contribute to it. “Everything is extremely dry, there has been a lot of stormy instability that was not planned by midnight there were 27 or 28 degrees,” says this firefighter on a very complicated context for her work. “All legs are up. Yesterday I had been thinking and although it is not the only factor climate change, to those who deny and cut it for it, I put them to work with us, to see what they thought,” reflects the firefighter.
