The leaders of the north and the Balticia expressed the unwavering support of Ukraine in front of the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska.

Negotiations only during the ceasefire

Negotiations on the end of the Russian-Ukrainian war can only take place during the ceasefire and no decisions should be taken without the participation of Kiev. This was stated on Sunday in a common opinion of the Nordic and Baltic countries, TASR reports according to AFP.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump will meet on Friday, August 15, Alaska to talk about the possibilities of ending this conflict. Ukrainian and European officials emphasize that Kiev must also have a place behind the negotiating table.

Support of Ukraine

The leaders of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Lithuania, Latvia, Norway and Sweden confirmed in the statement “unwavering support for sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine”.

They said they welcomed Trump’s initiative aimed at ending the war, but underlined that Ukraine and Europe should also participate in the interviews. “The inhabitants of Ukraine must have the freedom to decide on their future. The way to peace cannot be planned without the voice of Ukraine,” the statement said.

“No decisions on Ukraine without Ukraine and no decisions on Europe without Europe,” the leaders added, adding that the negotiations can only be made during the ceasefire.

The declaration also confirms that the Northern and Baltic countries will continue to support Ukraine financially and militarily, while continuing the restrictive measures against Russia.
