Sink, grass and … basket for everything. Where do the grill waste land most often?

After summer cooking, there is a lot of garbage that is difficult to classify. What to do with them? Most often we throw them into the first better garbage bag – or worse: we pour fat into the sink, smoke packaging in the fire or leave them simply under the bush.

– The problem is that many of these waste require special treatment – says Małgorzata Rdest, the initiator of the oilomaty project. – Disposable grills contain coal, ash, metal and plastics – they cannot be thrown into an ordinary container. Aluminum trays, if they are greasy and dirty, should not go to a container for metals and plastics. And the greatest damage is done by pouring fat – to the sink or sewage system, which thus goes to the soil or rivers – he adds.

Where to throw waste after grilling?

Not all summer garbage goes to the same containers. Here are some of the most common and their right place:

  • Aluminum trays – if they are clean, can be thrown into the container for metals and plastics. Dirty with fat – for mixed waste.
  • Disposable grills – are treated as problem waste. In many municipalities, they should be given to PSZOK or thrown into mixed-it is worth checking local rules.
  • Ash and used charcoal – after completely cooling, they can reach mixed waste.
  • Plastic packaging of sauces and marinades – after rinsing into a yellow container. If they are composed of several materials (e.g. foil + paper) – preferably for mixed.
  • Paper trays and napkins – if they are dirty with fat or food, they should reach mixed waste. Clean – for a paper container.
  • Disposable cutlery and plastic plates – despite the ban on sales, they are still used. If you reach for them, wash and use again. When they wear out – put in a container for metals and plastics (yellow).
  • Used food oil-pour into a tightly closed bottle and give it to PSZOK or use the oilome.

Not only oil after fries

Kitchen fat is not only the one after frying meat. It is also oil after dried tomatoes, a remnant of marinade or dressing from homemade salad. In the summer, there are a lot of such leftovers – and they often land where they should not.

It is worth treating it as a separate type of waste and recycled. The collected oil can gain a second life – it will be processed, after proper cleaning, e.g. for biofuel, candles or cleaning products. This is one of those cases where a simple action really makes a difference

How does the oilcomm work?

Oil -mate is a special device for collecting used food oil. Just throw a tightly closed PET bottle with oil into it – also after marinades or lagoons. On site, you can download a dedicated bottle for free and use it many times. 85 devices are already operating all over Poland, and their number is constantly growing.

Therefore, as part of the oilomaty project, we not only collect used oil, but also provide the appropriate bottles. This means that more and more people are convinced that oil recycling can be easy and convenient. And by the way – quite satisfying. After collecting a certain amount of oil, you can collect small prizes, such as plant or trees, as well as ecological gadgets. This is a simple solution that encourages you to act regularly

– he adds.

Fat is not waste, but a raw material

The fat collected in the oilcomm goes to biorafineria, where it is processed into biofuel. Such fuel is used in urban transport, industry and even aviation. This is one examples of closed circuit economy. Well -developed fat does not burden the environment – on the contrary, it can realistically support them.

Little gesture, real change

Summer cooking and eating together are a great pleasure. But it is worth remembering that what remains after them also requires our attention. Instead of a sink – a bottle. Instead of a basket – a selective collection point. That’s all – and so much. Because in the holiday ease there is also a place for reasonable choices
