Every year, “Night of Falling Stars” attracts crowds. Events are organized in almost every town, with a commentary on astrologers and science popularizers. And the maximum swarm of Perseids looks phenomenal. However, this year Preseids will be the most active a few days after the full moon, and so what goes less visible by the light of our natural satellite. Fortunately, there are places in Poland where it will be less burdensome.
Where and when is the best to watch the night of falling stars in August?
Perseids are one of the most famous and regular meteor swarms. Their name comes from the constellation of Perseus, in which the so -called swarm radiant is located, i.e. the place from which meteors fly out, often called “falling stars”. It is worth planning a romantic observation of the night sky on the night of August 12-13. Then the maximum swarm of the Perseids. Within an hour, even a hundred “falling stars” can be observed. The frequency of their occurrence meant that this phenomenon is determined by “rain of meteorites”. Unfortunately, this year the maximum swarm coincides with the full moon, which falls on August 9. Our natural satellite will still be very bright, which will make it difficult to see the weaker meteors. Fortunately, stronger, so -called The cars that leave the luminous streaks behind will still be visible. The best observation time begins 23:00 to sunrise. For better visibility, it is also worth taking care of a place free from urban light.
Perseids 2025. Best places to observe in Poland
The Perseid swarm will be visible all over Poland, provided that the sky was cloudless. However, it is worth going to places where the sky is not contaminated with artificial light. Here are five places in Poland ideal for observing the stars:
- Izerskie Mountains (Sudetes). In the heart of the Sudetes, in the Jizera Mountains, you will find the Izerski Park of the Dark Heaven. This unique place is famous for its extremely dark sky, free of light pollution, which guarantees spectacular views during the Perseid swarm.
- Bieszczady. Distant and wild Bieszczady is a paradise for lovers of the night sky. Minimal light pollution, confirmed by the Star Sky Park, creates ideal conditions for observing stars and meteors.
- Drawska Plain. The wide, open spaces of the Drawan Plain in northwestern Poland, near Drawsko and the Drawieński National Park, offer peaceful surroundings and minimal light pollution, ideal for admiring falling stars.
- Polesie. Forests, lakes and swamps Polesie in the east of Poland are an unusual background for astrotourism. The dark Polesia sky, in a natural environment, guarantees an unforgettable experience when observing Perseids.
- Masuria. The land of a thousand lakes is not only picturesque landscapes, but also minimal light pollution. The open spaces and the clean sky of Masuria make it a great place for the Perseid night observation.
