“We are naturally sad. Still trying to get used to the lack. Black was a very full of life, intense, in the affective sense, and was already a long suffering,” said Gil.
Black was diagnosed with cancer in 2023, and, after an aggravation, sought experimental treatment in the US. Gil stressed the support of the public, which has been a balm in this moment of pain. “Death is part of life and we follow. With black, we had time to prepare us. The diagnosis was hard, her healing expectations were small,” he said.
The musician highlighted his daughter’s legacy: “She lived a life that teaches us a lot, tells us directions and values. She was enthusiastic to live to improve everyone’s life.”
Preta Gil died in New York while trying to return to Brazil. She got sick on her way to the airport, and although an ambulance was triggered, she could not resist. Its loss has left a deep mark in the family, whose musical legacy and love of life remain alive.
In honor, the Rio Carnival circuit received its name, celebrating the joy and force of black, which will always be remembered with love and longing.
