According to Swedish activist, the initiative called ‘Global Sumud Flotilla’ will be the ‘biggest attempt ever made to break Israeli illegal blockade’ in Palestinian territory, with ‘dozens of boats from Spain’
A flotilla with humanitarian aid zarpar on August 31 of various ports of the Mediterranean towards the to “break Israeli illegal block”, the Swedish activist announced on Sunday which will integrate the initiative. “On August 31st, we will start the biggest attempt ever made to break the Israeli illegal blockade of Gaza, with dozens of boats from Spain. We will join the other tens on September 4, which will save Tunisia and other ports,” he wrote on Instagram.
The initiative, called ‘Global Sumud Flotilla’, will feature artists, such as actress Susan Sarandon and actors Gustaf Skarsgård and Liam Cunningham, as well as activists from 44 countries, according to the organization’s website, which does not reveal the exact number of boats. ‘Global Sumud Flotilla’ is defined on its website as an “independent” and “not affiliated organization or political party.”
The new initiative was announced after a recent failed attempt to bring help to Gaza, who was attended by Thunberg. The “Madleen” sailboat, with 12 French, German, Brazilians, Turks, Swedish, Spanish and Dutch activists on board, was intercepted on June 9 by Israeli forces, 185 kilometers west of the coast of Gaza. The activists were expelled by the government of Israel.
