Israel’s army has killed the Palestinian journalist at the last minute of this Sunday Anas Al Sharifone of the most prominent reporters for its coverage of the Gaza War, and three other journalists from the Catarí chain Al Jazera in a precision bombing against a store reserved for media in the capital of the strip.
After the television network advanced, citing medical sources, the Israel Army has confirmed in its social network account X That Sharif was died in an attack made against the Palestinian enclave and has reiterated a prior accusation that he was integrated into the Hamas structure, although he has never presented verifiable evidence of his affiliation to a militia.
Just half an hour earlier, the journalist published in his own profile of the social network X a video showing the proximity of the bombings that whipped at that time to the city of Gaza, accompanied by the text: “Bombardeos without stopping … For two hours, the Israeli aggression intensifies in the city of Gaza.”
Shortly before losing his life, Al Sharif also shared on social networks another text about the expansion of the Israeli offensive in the capture of the strip: “If this madness does not end, Gaza will be reduced to ruins, the voices of his silence, their deleted faces. And the story will remember them as silent witnesses of a genocide that they decided not to stop.”
Together with Al Sharif, 28 years old and a native of the Gazatí town of Yabalia, another 3 other journalists died: the reporter Mohammed Qreiquea (also of the chain Al Jazera) and the photographers Ibrahim Zaher and Mohamed Aliwa, in addition to its driver, Mohammed Nofal, to which the Gazati government also pointed out as an assistant photojournalist.
Settled images moments after the attack show Al Sharif with the face and part of the destroyed body, as well as the body of Qreiqeh. Shortly after, another video shows dozens of men by moving one of the crowded corpses (presumably that of Al Sharif) among “Allah is great”.
With them five, the Gazati government count of dead informants because of the Israeli offensive amounts to 237, in a list that includes journalists, ‘influencers’ and other content creators.
Alleged link to Hamas
This same Sunday, the Israeli army, after confirming the death of the reporter, has insisted that “a journalist from Al Yazira was passed” when in reality “he was the head of a Hamas terrorist cell and directed advanced attacks with rockets against Israeli troops and troops. For these accusations, Israel is based on two documents whose origin has not been detailed They published in October 2024, reporters without borders (RSF) concluded: “The mere publication of these documents does not constitute sufficient evidence of affiliation or license to kill.”
One of them is entitled ‘Hamás operations list in the North Brigade of the Gaza Strip’. In it, it is recorded that he was injured in 2019 as a member of the group, which he allegedly joined in 2013, 17 years. Another document in which afflictions of alleged members of the organization include an entry in which the Sharif is injured by an explosion in 2017.
“Intelligence and documents from Gaza, including listings, terrorist training records and salary payrolls, prove that it was an infiltrated Hamas operation. A press credential is not a shield for terrorism,” said the army, which has not pronounced the death of the other three reporters.
At the end of July, the UN special rapporteur about freedom of expression, Irene Khan, declared her alarm “for the repeated threats and accusations of the Israeli army” against the reporter. “The fears for the security of Al Sharif are well founded, since there are more and more evidence that Gaza journalists have been attacked and killed by the Israeli army based on statements without the foundation that they were terrorists of Hamas,” Khan said.
Al Jazeera is the main foreign medium that informs from the enclave (not allowing Israel access to the international press independently), as well as one of the most important in the Arab world. Israel prohibited its issuance in its territory.
