New York (Reuters)-A US Judge denied the Justice Department’s request on Monday to reveal the records of the great jury that indicated Ghislaine Maxwell, partner of late financier Jeffrey Epstein, on accusations of sexual trafficking, writing that records do not answer public questions about their crimes or Epstein’s death.

The federal district judge of Manhattan Paul Engelmayer, who analyzed the transcripts of the testimonies of witnesses heard by the great jury and other evidence that the jury has seen, wrote that the government’s statement that the materials would reveal new significant information about Epstein and Maxwell crimes is “proven false”.

“A public of the public familiar with the Maxwell trial file to examine the materials of the great jury that the government proposes to reveal would know almost nothing new,” wrote Engelmayer.

“To the extent that the motion for the opening implies that the materials of the great jury are an unexplored mine of unclogged information about Epstein, Maxwell or their accomplices, they are definitely not it,” wrote the judge.

Maxwell is serving a 20 -year prison sentence after his conviction in 2021 for sex trafficking. Epstein died of suicide in a Manhattan prison cell in 2019 while waiting for trial for sex trafficking. He had declared himself innocent.

Neither the Department of Justice nor the defense of Maxwell responded immediately to requests for comments.

Last month, President Donald Trump instructed Attorney General Pam Bondi to seek the dissemination of the material of the great Jury of Epstein and Maxwell, while trying to placate the discontent of his conservative supporters and congressional democrats about the treatment given by his government to cases of cases.

Trump, a Republican, had promised to make public the files related to Epstein if reelected and accused the democrats of covering up the truth. But in July, the Justice Department said a list of Epstein clients, previously touched, did not exist, raising Trump’s supporters.
