After 16 games without winning, Sport broke the taboo and won the first victory in this edition of the Brazilian Championship! On Sunday night (10), the island lion hit Grêmio, in the Grêmio Arena, 1-0, in a game valid for the 19th round of the tournament.
The only goal of the match was scored by Matheusinho, five minutes into the second stage.
Despite the three points, Sport continues in the lantern, now with 9 points won, while Grêmio is in 15th position, with 20 points.
How was the game
The first stage had a lot of struggle from both teams, but little football. With many midfield fighting and few chances of goal, with one to each side only.
Grêmio arrived with danger first, after Cristian Olivera made a good move and Riquelme sending to the goal, but Gabriel avoided. Soon after, it was Sport’s turn to arrive with Léo Pereira, who stopped in good defense of Tiago Volpi.
The second stage was more agitated. After five minutes, Sport opened the scoring. Léo Pereira received at the tip and crossed underneath, and Matheusinho, free, only completed to score the first goal of the match in the arena.
Grêmio responded with Cristian Olivera, who received from Edenílson and hit hard for a good defense of Gabriel. The Sport goalkeeper appeared again after Carlos Vinicius received and dominated in the area, but the impediment was marked.
The game then became frantic and the two teams wasted goals. First, Derik Lacerda pulled counterattack, came out face to face with Volpi and kicked out. Following, it was Braithwaite’s turn to stop in Gabriel, who made another good save.
At 33, Sport again scared with Derik Lacerda. Barletta crossed and the center forward headed with danger over Volpi’s goal. Minutes later, shirt 30 broke into the area and hit it out.
Dominating the duel in the final minutes, Sport still had two more chances with Derik, who finished very strongly on both occasions.
Grêmio even tried to press the additions, but could not create a real chance for the draw and was defeated.
Next Games
Both teams break in midweek and only play for Brasileirão again next weekend.
At the MRV Arena, Grêmio takes Atlético-MG. The match is scheduled for 16h (Brasilia), Sunday (17).
