The Government has submitted a requirement to the City of Jumilla (Murcia) to annul the agreement on the use of municipal sports facilities, which prevents its use for acts of the Muslim community of the town, because it understands that it threatens religious freedom, according to El País sources of the Executive.
On July 28, a week before the debate of the municipal budgets in Jumilla began, the Plenary approved an amendment of the PP to a Vox motion that prevents in practice in this municipality of 27,200 neighbors, of which it is estimated that 1,500 profess that religion. An unprecedented measure, because the reason that justified it appeals to “traditional religious manifestations [en España]”And he directly faces the fundamental right of religious and worship freedom, recognized in the Constitution.
This is the collective prayer of the end of Ramadan-the AID el-Fitr— and the one that is done two months later, at the Lamb party. The two had been carried out at least in the last four years in the municipal sports center and that is where the Ultra party found a key to encourage a debate that had little to do with the functions of the enclosure, but sought to prohibit “acts outside the identity of the people.”
“The regulations allow the use of the sports center for sociocultural activities, so that the objective reasons wielded are not supported,” reads the text written by the central government. The measure approved in the City Council and that is in process, contemplates prohibiting any non -sports act in the municipal sports facilities or those that the Consistory itself does not organize.
For the Executive of Pedro Sánchez, the amendment approved in Jumilla hides a “true discriminatory intention”, because they argue, “it can be observed both in the original text and in the statements of the Vox spokesman, which has boasted to ban Muslim festivities.” And he concludes that “we are facing a new violation of fundamental rights and freedoms by local and autonomic governments of the right and the ultra -right where the Government of Spain in favor of the Constitution has to intervene.”
The requirement launches a warning that goes beyond the municipality and points directly to the Ultra Party and its agreements with the PP: “We will fight politically and legally any initiative that attempts to go undermine rights and freedoms and introduce Spain into an authoritarian dynamic, in line with other countries where ultra -right has occupied government positions.”
The Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, has insisted on his social media accounts: “Faced with the extremist drift of PPVOX, we defend the Constitution, rights and religious freedom. We will stop their ultras measures, as we did before abortion in Castilla y León or censorship in Murcia.”
