The High Commissioner of For Human Rights, it required, on Monday (11), in a message on social network X, “the immediate liberation” of Colombian-Venzuelan Human Rights activist Martha Lia Grajales, arrested on Friday in Caracas. “Your family and lawyer must be informed about your situation and place of detention. Your human rights must be respected,” Volker Türk insisted on this brief message. Martha Lia Grajales, who directs the NGO emerging, was arrested on Friday (8) after a demonstration in favor of prisoners in the context of the Venezuelan post-election crisis, reported several organizations.

The Surgers had denounced that a protest summoned to Tuesday, August 5, in front of the headquarters of the Supreme Court (TSJ) was dispersed by “a parapolyicial group of about 70 people,” as the government-favorable collectives are known. After the reelection of President Nicolás Maduro, denounced as fraudulent by the opposition, broke out demonstrations that left 28 dead, about 200 injured and more than 2,400 prisoners, of which 2,000 have been released so far, according to official data.

Prisoners are processed by crimes such as “incitement to hatred” and “terrorism” that can lead to penalties of between 10 and 30 years, the maximum in Venezuela. So far, the whereabouts of Grajales and the Venezuelan authorities have not yet spoken publicly about the case.
