The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has signed an executive order to extend ninety days the deadline to reach a tariff agreement with China. The announcement, released by a high position of the White House, arrives just hours before it expired on Tuesday, and prevents mutual taxpayers from stratospheric levels.
Shortly before the signing of the executive order was confirmed, Trump had not wanted to be clear about the perspectives of an extension: “We will see,” he had responded on the issue at a press conference in the White House.
If that extension to the truce achieved during a meeting of the respective trade officials in Geneva in May had not agreed, Chinese products would have faced rates of up to 145% at their entry into the United States. American goods would face a 125% load in the People’s Republic.
